November 4/5 2024 Aircraft Steel Mount Re-Install Aircraft Update
As of 0800, November 5, 2024, the manufactured aircraft steel mount plate is completely installed on the underside of the SH-60F. The install team had a minor issue with the final part of re-installing the bushing around the shaft protruding up into the RAST Hole.
They managed it this morning with “a very fine sanding pad and a little lubricant. “
The aircraft Steel Mounting Plate designed, manufactured, and installed by NADEP San Diego is complete.
The aircraft will be moved back to the HSC-14 Hangar where it will be loaded with the restored Mk-46 Torpedo and will now go through a series of trial lifts using an H-60 Lifting Sling adjusted so the underneath mount plate is parallel, flat to the ground using the Seabee’s Crane and crew who will do it for real eventually on January 11, 2025 at the main gate. This will work out the issues with getting the lifting sling fully adjusted so it goes smooth come January 2025.
The mounting plate has a circle of ten bolt holes which fit over the circle of ten bolt heads protruding above the concrete stanchion.
Needed several re-lifts of the plate and the use of the four big boxes to get it in position from the side to re-install the plate. Once it was in position, they gooped it all with a dark black sealer. Look at the pictures carefully to see the piece of tape on the side which is an alignment tool for the forklift operator as well as four fasters handing down under the aircraft. They will jockey the plate to align these four fasteners up so they go through the correct holes in the plate and then lift it up against the bottom.
The plate should be reinstalled by COB today November 4, 2024.
